What do I do when thirty-something people are coming to my house to watch the Super Bowl? I clean my oven!! Yep, that’s right!!! I figure that is where people will be hanging out!! I mean really?? I am ridiculous!! My floors need mopping, my bathrooms need to be cleaned, vacuuming, cooking, you name it and it needs to be done! Yet, here I am scrubbing away!! Funny thing, though, not one person said, “Boy your oven sure is clean! That is beautiful how you can see right in there!!”
Why do we do such nonsense? I say “we” because I have to believe I am not the only one! I can’t be alone in the ward I know I will one day end up in!
Piles of laundry to do? Wait, a second, I don’t think I have cleaned that little compartment I put my Downy into in a while! So, for the next 15 minutes, I clean that out. By then I am just exhausted so I relax a bit. It is absurd! Please tell me I am not the only one that does this!
I can’t forget to mention my entourage who follow me around while I am doing most of my daily routine. JP is only 13-months-old so I give him the benefit of the doubt. He does hinder the process with his unfolding clothes faster than I can fold them and digging in all the cabinets.
Noah is probably the best at keeping himself busy with things other than electronics. Don’t get me wrong, that is what both of my older boys would do all of their waking hours if I allowed it but I do not. They get one hour on school days and two on the weekends or snow days. It was rough on everyone at first, but once they adjusted it smoothed itself out! I highly recommend it.
I will confess, I have been a bit more flexible through the winter. Warmer weather makes it a lot easier!
My middle child is a different story. Wyatt would follow me to the ends of the earth if I allowed him to do so!! Save the speech of “I will miss it one day”. I know I will to an extent anyway. Call me selfish, however, I enjoy peeing alone. I told him the other day that if I stopped short I was pretty sure he would shoot straight up my ass! Harsh? Maybe. But you wake up in the middle of the night with him just staring over you and you see how you react!! I know it is horrible, but it is what it is…..
